Huawei’s Canada Research Centre has announced plans to extend its 5G research partnership with Carleton University.
The announcement coincided with Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne visit to Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China.
Huawei and Carleton stated in a joint press release that the aim of the partnership is to identify new research undertakings that will help with the widespread deployment and adoption of 5G technologies, including automated vehicles.
In fact, the telecom equipment giant is also committing its research and financial support to Carleton’s bid to establish a pan-Canada network of centres of excellence on connected, autonomous and networked vehicles.
Huawei has been collaborating with Carleton since 2010, through its research centre based in Kanata, Ontario. The collaborative work includes a five-year project on 5G-enabling technologies also supported by Telus and the Ontario Research Fund.
Huawei has been investing heavily in Canada as of late. The company recently became a member of the Ontario Centre’s of Excellence CENGN consortium in Ottawa, and is partnering with Seneca College to train network technicians on Huawei enterprise equipment.
Not long ago, Huawei also partnered with the University of British Columbia to support research in advance communications with the university’s Faculty of Applied Science and Science.
