The world of Pokémon GO is about to get even bigger with the addition of over 50 new third-generation Pokémon.
In this week’s update, players will be able to catch well-known Pokémon that debuted in 2002’s Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, including Mudkip, Torchic, Treecko, Wailord and Salamence. Developer Niantic says that there will be “even more [Pokémon] to be discovered over the next several weeks.”
Alongside the new Hoenn region Pokémon is the addition of a weather system. Going forward, weather conditions in the real-world will affect gameplay in various ways in Pokémon Go.
For example, Niantic says that Water-type Pokémon like Mudkip will be easier to find on rainy days, while Fire-type attacks like Fire Spin will be more effective when it’s very sunny outside.
Niantic’s blog post lists sunny, rainy, snowy, foggy, partly cloudy and windy as examples of different weather conditions that will affect the game.
Do you still play Pokémon Go? If not, will the Hoenn region Pokémon and dynamic weather system draw you back in? Let us know in the comments.
