This year’s Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Yoga convertible laptop will use the 8th-generation Kaby Lake processor with USB-C charging capability, and support both Amazon Alexa and Dolby Vision.
As far as Windows-powered laptops are concerned, it’s odd for Amazon Alexa to be joining the fray, nevertheless users will have the options of saying “Alexa” instead of “Hey Cortana.” Both laptops come with 360-degree far-field microphones which, according to Lenovo, are capable of hearing the user from four meters away. Another feature lets user wake the laptops with their voice, meanwhile the X1 Yoga now offers Windows Hello facial recognition and continues to feature the Windows Hello fingerprint scanner.
Unfortunately, for those who are planning on getting either laptop right away, Amazon Alexa will not be available at launch and is set to arrive through a software update during the first half of 2018. Dolby Vision HDR also won’t be available when the laptops are first released, but are coming in a future update.
Both laptops feature 14-inch WQHD resolutions (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) with 100 percent Adobe RHB colour gamut and brightness up to 500 nits.
On the inside users can expect, as previously mentioned, up to an Intel 8th-gen Core i7 processor, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of SSD of internal storage and an Intel UHD Graphics 620 card.
The X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga will be available in the U.S. this month at a starting price of $1,709 ($2,130 CAD) and $1,889 ($2,355 CAD) USD.
