The CEO of Tesla sat down with CBS‘s Gayle King to talk about the Model 3 and how long it might be until customers begin receiving their cars.
King started off by asking Musk if customers should be worried about what is set to happen with their orders and when they might finally receive them.
“There shouldn’t be a question mark as to whether somebody’s gonna get their car, it’s just, yes, you’ll definitely get your car. It’s going to be six to nine months longer than expected,” Musk replied on the show.
King also asked if there has been many canceled orders because of the long wait times for the car. Musk shared that he believes some customers may have canceled their orders because they couldn’t afford to wait for the Model 3.
Musk didn’t state how long it will be until the Model 3 begins to ramp up production, or any other news related to the car. That said, there is a longer version of the interview set to be broadcast on CBS on Friday, April 13th.
The Model 3 is Tesla’s latest and cheapest car but the company has run into trouble meeting its 5,000 car per week manufacturing goal. This slow release of the vehicle has been frustrating for the hundreds of thousands of buyers who put down a $1,000 USD deposit in some cases as long as three months ago.
The Tesla website says Model 3 orders will currently take anywhere from 12 to 18 months for them to start shipping.
