The Samsung Galaxy S10 will not undergo a major redesign, according to South Korean publication The Bell. The leak indicates the phone will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner — similar to past rumours surrounding the Note 9 — and a 3D sensing camera module.
Probably the biggest letdown about the S10 though, is that the phone will likely look the exact same as the S9 and even the S8. According to The Bell, the S10 will feature the same Infinity Display as the previous version of the smartphone.
The Bell sources the display industry and claims Samsung Electronics has supplied the dimensions for the S10 and the S10+ to Samsung Display. The source claims that the S10 will feature a 5.8-inch display, while the S10+ is set to feature a 6.3-inch screen.
While there have been leaks in the past regarding Samsung devices featuring a redesign, it appears the S10 won’t be dramatically different from its predecessor.
It’s possible that Samsung will launch its foldable X lineup next year as well, though it looks like it will not be replacing the S lineup.
As for the in-display fingerprint scanner, it’s reportedly being worked on by Qualcomm and Synaptic in the U.S., and Aegis Tech in Taiwan. Lastly, The Bell, didn’t clarify exactly what it means by 3D sensing technology, however, Israeli 3D camera solution, Mantis Vision and camera module maker Woodgate, are currently working together on the module. It’s likely Samsung wants 3D sensing technology similar to the iPhone X’s.
One should take the information above with a grain of salt, however. While The Bell has proven to be correct regarding Samsung leaks and rumours, it’s also been quite far off in the past as well.
