Sony launches God of War companion augmented reality app

God of War World Serpent

Sony has launched an augmented reality app called ‘Mimir’s Vision’ to coincide with the April 20th release of God of War on the PlayStation 4.

In God of War, the severed head of Mimir serves as a source of wisdom and knowledge for Kratos and his son Atreus on their journey throughout Scandinavia.

In Mimir’s Vision, you’ll be able to see an AR-created version of God of War‘s Norse mythology-inspired world. Moving your phone in the real world will let you study the landscape, while tapping on specific locations will bring up additional information delightfully read by Mimir himself.

The backstory is certainly very interesting and well-voiced, but it’s worth noting that the app does reveal a good deal of God of War‘s central hub. There’s nothing spoilerish, per se, but if you’re someone who likes to go into a game completely blind then it may be worth checking out after you’ve started playing God of War.

In any case, Mimir’s Vision — which appears to use Apple’s ARKit and Google’s ARCore — can be downloaded for free on Android and iOS.
