Following in the footsteps of both Bell and Telus, Rogers is now charging a $30 connection fee.
The carrier’s sub-brand Fido has also increased its connection fee from $25 to $30 as of today.
The fee applies when customers activate a new line or perform a hardware upgrade, but is waived altogether when customers perform the transaction online.
Rogers told MobileSyrup the one-time fee helps cover costs associated with activating a device. Presumably, this includes the assistance provided by in-store customer service representatives.
Telus and its flanker brand Koodo, which replaced its $20 SIM card fee with a $30 connection fee as of late March, while Bell and its sub-brand Virgin Mobile increased its connection fee to $30 effective April 19th.
All three of the major carriers do not charge for SIM cards with activation, though $10 is the general fee for a replacement.
