Rest easy Canadians: the cost of Amazon Prime isn’t going up in Canada
In Amazon’s Q1 2018 earnings report, the e-commerce giant confirmed that it’s increasing the yearly subscription price of Amazon Prime in the U.S. to $119 USD from its current price of $99 USD. On a month-to-month basis, Amazon Prime is still priced at $12.99 USD per month or $156 USD a year.
The price is only for new sign-ups starting on May 11th, which is only a couple of weeks away. Anyone currently subscribed to Prime won’t be hit with the increase unless your renewal comes on or after June 16th.
Amazon Prime’s U.S. price hike led many Canadians to assume that the cost of the company’s premium subscription plan would also go up north of the U.S. border.
Amazon Canada has confirmed to MobileSyrup that it currently has no plans to increase the cost of Amazon Prime in Canada and that the price will remain at $79 CAD. In Quebec, a 13-month subscription is priced at $79.99 CAD.
