Group video calls, stickers coming to WhatsApp soon

WhatsApp, the globally popular chat app, is getting new group video calls, stickers and business features.

Facebook announced the new features at its F8 conference in San Jose, California today. Details were sparse, and no release dates were given for the new features.

Group video calls will support up to four participants. The feature will be compatible with smartphones and is set to be available for the 450 million daily active users in the coming months.

Stickers will act like they do on other platforms, like Messenger. They will also have support for third-party sticker collections.

A group video calling feature is long overdo for a platform like WhatsApp. Group chat has been a staple feature on the service for some time and the lack of group calling options has not gone unnoticed.

Along with the new features, WhatsApp is increasing its business push as well. Earlier this year the platform launched WhatsApp for Business for Android.

This comes in the wake of WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum’s announcement that he will be leaving Facebook. His decision stems from issues with how Facebook deals with personal data.
