Two new additions to the Canadian streaming market are coming this September: Citytv NOW and FX NOW.
Rogers Media announced ahead of its June 5th, 2018 ‘Media Upfront’ event that it’s bringing current and past seasons of TV programming to its new companion streaming apps, which are ad-supported and only available only for channel subscribers.
The Citytv NOW and FX NOW services will be available online (Citytv.com and FXNowCanada.ca), on mobile apps for iOS and Android (Citytv Video and FX NOW Canada app), as well as through ‘TV Everywhere’ platforms (in other words, partnered platforms through which users can authenticate their subscription).
Rogers Media stated the service will also be available on video-on-demand services through set-top boxes to “distributors across Canada.”
Citytv NOW will offer new episodes of current prime-time series available immediately upon airing as well as older seasons of drama, comedy and reality TV.
Additionally, Rogers Media stated that Citytv NOW will deliver new original series that haven’t aired on Citytv.
As for FX NOW, which rolled out to American TV subscribers in 2017, it’ll hold over 500 episodes of various series as of launch, which will be “continually refreshed.”
The service launches with American Crime Story, American Horror Story, The Americans, Atlanta, Baskets, Better Things, Feud, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Legion, Mayans MC, Pose, Snowfall, Taboo and Trust.
As with Citytv NOW, new episodes will be available immediately for all current series. All previous seasons of current titles will be included, as will exclusive sneak peeks of some series in advance of broadcast debuts.
