Some Bethesda games are getting Xbox Series X/S frame rate boosts

The 'FPS Boost' update for these titles isn't available yet, but should release soon

Xbox Series X

Update 15/03/2021 at 12:27pm ET: Microsoft has announced that five Bethesda games will receive the ‘FPS Boost’ update today.

With the feature, Microsoft says Dishonored: Definitive Edition, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Prey will all be playable in “nearly 60fps” on Xbox Series X/S, up from their standard 30fps.

Keep in mind, however, that Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 will run at lower resolutions to support the higher frame rates. Therefore, FPS Boost will not be enabled automatically for these games like it will be for the other three. You can turn on FPS Boost for a specific title by visiting its ‘Manage Game’ section.

FPS Boost is available in all five games for everyone, regardless of whether you own them or are playing them via Game Pass.

The original story is below:

Now that Microsoft has added 20 new Bethesda/ZeniMax titles to its rapidly growing Game Pass, the company has confirmed that several games are getting frame rate boosts when running on the Xbox Series X and Series S.

Building off the announcement of ‘FPS Boost a few weeks ago,‘ Arkane Studios’ Dishonored: Definitive Edition and Prey plus Bethesda Game Studios’ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 76 and Fallout 4, will all play in 60fps on Microsoft’s current-gen consoles.

The announcement was made during a recent YouTube live stream featuring Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) and communications chief Jeff Rubenstein.

It’s important to note that while the new Bethesda titles are already part of Game Pass, the FPS Boost update hasn’t rolled out yet.
