Pokémon has reportedly reached $100 billion USD (roughly $125 billion CAD) in lifetime sales across its games, manga, anime, toys and movies.
According to data from safebettingsites, the franchise is more valuable than any other property, including Hello Kitty, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse and even the entire Star Wars series.
There have been more than 70 games released in the Pokémon series since its launch back in 1996, amounting to roughly 350 million copies sold. Pokémon’s original three games — Red, Green, and Blue — are still its best-selling titles, with more than 31 million copies sold.
And you can’t forget about Pokémon Go, which is estimated to be the third-highest grossing mobile game with $1.2 billion in sales since its launch in 2016.
This year marks the 25th-year anniversary of the Pokémon property. The second biggest franchise is Hello Kitty, founded back in 1974, and its estimated revenue of $84.5 billion USD (about $105 billion CAD).
The next games in the Pokémon series, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, are expected to launch later this year.
