Update: May 6th:Â We’ve received an official response from a Public Mobile spokesperson.
At Public Mobile, weâre constantly finding new and exciting opportunities to put the power of mobility in our customersâ hands. To provide Canadians with an elevated customer experience, Public Mobile will be going 100% online as of July 13. Weâre always making investments in features that truly matter to our customers, including the launch of Public Points earlier this year, where customers can earn and redeem rewards with ultimate flexibility. Weâve also completely redesigned our Community Forum to give customers the ability to find their solutions faster, with 24/7 access to support. Customers can expect to see many more exciting enhancements as we focus on building a best-in-class digital experience for Public Mobile.
While we prepare for this online transition, new Public Mobile customers can continue to activate mobility plans through our various retail partners until July 12. Beyond this date, all new activations, along with purchases of SIM cards and devices can be done online at publicmobile.ca. For customers who prefer to pick-up a SIM in person, Public Mobile SIMs will be available for purchase only at TELUS and Koodo corporate store locations.
With Public Mobile’s shift to online starting in July, customers can activate Koodo Prepaid in-store at all Koodo and most TELUS and partner retail store locations across Canada. With no credit checks and no fixed-term contracts, Koodo Prepaid has customers covered with affordable and reliable 3G and 4G plans in addition to features like hassle-free payments, automatic top-ups, booster add-ons that donât expire, awesome referral perks and live agent call centre support. And with a single SIM, itâs easy for customers to make the step up to Koodoâs suite of postpaid plans when they are ready.
As of July 13th, Public Mobile will be moving to 100-percent online-only and will no longer have retail locations, according to tip from a MobileSyrup reader.
Additionally, as of May 3rd, Koodo Prepaid will be available alongside Public Mobile, which means the two brands will overlap for a time until July 13th.
According to the information given to us by a reader, Koodo Prepaid will now be the “value brand of choice.”
Koodo Prepaid will include:
- Call centre support
- 3G and 4G speed plans
- Koodo prepaid account management tool, which will allow sales reps to support customers with account management-related transactions. These include rate plan changes, booster purchases and SIM swaps.
Koodo Prepaid will also need no credit checks, no contracts and no overage charges, referral bonuses, chatbots and a self-care section on the website.
Public Mobile isn’t the only online-only carrier. Videotron’s Fizz Mobile moved to online-only back in 2020.
We’ve reached out to Koodo/Public Mobile for further information and will update this story.
