Update: Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone now available to download

During Microsoft’s Mobile World Congress keynote in Barcelona, the company announced that Facebook Messenger will be coming to the Windows Phone 8 devices sometime over the next few weeks. Joe Belfiore, Microsoft’s VP of Windows Phone, stated that “Facebook Messenger is probably one of the most requested individual apps we have our customers asking for.”

This stand alone app is being designed in by both Microsoft and Facebook and is expected to bring the same experience that Android and iOS users currently have.

Update: This didn’t take very long. For those Windows Phone 8 users who’ve been waiting for Facebook Messenger to arrive, today is your big day. The app has been released and can now be downloaded via the Windows Phone Store. The basic features are present, such as sending individual or group chats, sending private messages, and loading up on stickers.
