CBC’s FIFA World Cup 2014 app offers live matches, multi-angle replays, scores, news and bios

CBC FIFA World Cup app

CBC is set to take on the other sporting event of the year, the FIFA World Cup, which starts this Thursday, June 12th with hosts Brazil taking on Croatia.

As with the Sochi Olympics, CBC is offering extensive mobile support, including fully-formed apps for iOS and Android phones and tablets. The company plans to offer live streaming of every game, including the knockout rounds and finals, as well as multi-angle replays of many of the best plays from each game.

CBC was pretty happy with its Sochi app, which was downloaded 2.5 million times during the Games, and plans to do even better with this one. The design is native to each platform, employing the now-familiar left-side “hamburger” menu to access various areas of the app. Users can expect news, schedules and bios of players in addition to video-on-demand. The app also promises globs of player and team stats.

While other apps like SportsNet, TSN and theScore will provide push notifications for the latest soccer news, CBC intends for its app to be the destination for all things soccer over the next month.
