Alcatel One Touch expands Hero line with octacore Hero 2 smartphone and Hero 8 tablet

Alcatel One Touch today introduced its newest smartphone and tablet, the Hero 2 and Hero 8, at IFA Berlin.

The Hero 2 takes aim at the Note 4 with a massive 6-inch display with a 1980 x 1080 resolution and a stylus. It also boasts an octa-core CPU clocked to 2 GHz. It’s got 2  GB of DDR3 RAM and 16 GB of internal storage (12.9 GB available). The camera is a 13.1MP sensor with autofocus, flash, and 1080p video capture. The front-facing camera is a 5MP sensor just like Microsoft’s selfie phone and the Huawei Ascend Mate 7. Battery life is a claimed 10 hours on 3G via a 3100 mAh battery.

Alcatel One Touch also talked up a host of companion devices, including the MagicFlip covers with LED lights, the Sidekick 2 which allows you to control your TV and music, a portable E-Card for reading books”with the comfort of paper” and the SmartBook, which allows you to use your phone in laptop form. Alcatel One Touch didn’t go it into too much detail on these accessories and their pricing but we’re betting most people won’t be all that jazzed to add four more ‘companion devices’ to their smartphone.

Available in September, Alcatel hasn’t announced pricing for the Hero 2, but we’re expecting flagship pricing for this device.

The company also announced the Hero 8 (pictured above), an 8-inch LTE tablet that it’s calling one of the slimmest and lightest in the world. The Hero 8 weighs in at 310 grams and measures just 7.3 mm thick, which is 0.2 mm thinner and 20 grams lighter than the Retina iPad mini.

The Hero 8 boasts a borderless 1920 x 1200 display and comes with 2 GB of RAM, an octacore MediaTek chipset, and 16 GB of integrated storage. The front-facing camera is 2MP while the rear-facing lens has a 5MP sensor. The battery clocks in at 4060 mAh. Though you likely won’t ever want to use this device as a smartphone, Alcatel One Touch specifically mentioned that it is voice call enabled, so you can if you want to.
