Samsung announces Galaxy S5 Active for Canadian audiences, available on Bell, TELUS and Rogers for $279.95

Samsung has announced the Galaxy S5 Active for Canadian audiences.

The device, which we confirmed earlier this month to be coming to TELUS, will launch on multiple carriers today in one colour, Titanium Grey.

The Galaxy S5 Active is an elements-resistant version of the company’s flagship announced earlier this year, with Mil-STD-810G certification that makes it shock, water and dust resistant. It contains an identical 5.1-inch 1080p Gorilla Glass 3-covered Super AMOLED panel, but the chassis is covered with a tough rubberized shell that keeps it resistant to water at up to one metre for 30 minutes.

It also sports a 2.5Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, a 16MP rear camera, 2.1MP front camera, a 2,800mAh battery and LTE connectivity. It comes in at 145 x 73.5 x 9mm and weighs 170 grams. In comparison, the regular Galaxy S5 is 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm and weighs 145 grams.

Like the regular S5, it has a heart rate monitor below the rear camera, and Samsung has teamed up with Locqus to provide its Field Service Management solution for service professionals to schedule jobs, accept payments and more.

The device launches on Bell today for $279.95 on a 2-year term and $699.95 outright. The device is also coming to TELUS later in the year, and there’s no word on whether Rogers will launch the phone.

Update: Rogers has confirmed that it too will be selling the Galaxy S5 Active. Customers will be able to purchase the S5 Active for $279.99 with a 2-year FLEXtab agreement on select plans. The device is available in some stores beginning today, and will roll out to others, and to its online portal, in the coming days.

Update #2: TELUS has confirmed that it will begin carrying the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active beginning next week. Pricing has not been confirmed, but it is expected to be in line with Bell and Rogers at $279.95.
