Sundar Pichai, the man who in 2013 was promoted to replace Andy Rubin as the head of Android and Chrome, has once again been levelled up at the world’s biggest search provider.
According to sources close to Recode, Pichai has been promoted by Google CEO Larry Page to lead all “core Google products,” including “research, search, maps, Google+, commerce and ads and infrastructure,” as well as continuing to take care of Chrome and Android.
Page reportedly wants to focus less on individual components at Google and take more of a bigger picture view, though he will still oversee legal and business, including search ads. The other co-founder, Sergey Brin, now heads Google’s special projects.
It’s unclear how specifically Pichai will oversee Android and Chrome now that his role has so broadly expanded, but Recode notes that the promotion is part of CEO Page’s continuing attempts to keep Google innovative.
