Android 4.4.4 update now available for Sony Xperia Z and ZL

Sony has just released the latest version of Android — well, its latest versions — for the Xperia Z, ZL and SP.

The Xperia ZL was the non-waterproof, more-compact version of the Xperia Z that was released on multiple carriers in early 2013. An over-the-air update to Android 4.4.4 should be available now for users on Rogers, Bell, MTS, Mobilicity, Videotron and WIND Mobile, though Sony recommends downloading PC Companion for Windows, or Bridge for OS X to ensure a smooth update. The same applies to the Bell Xperia Z, which is also receiving Android 4.4.4.

Xperia SP users can also upgrade to Android 4.4.3, which appears to be the end of the road for the mid-range device that was available on Rogers, Bell, Fido and Virgin Mobile.

Sony confirmed earlier this year that its Z line would eventually receive an upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop, beginning with the Xperia Z3 in early 2015.

Update: Sony sent out a message on Twitter stating that Xperia SP users will receive Android 4.4.3, not Android 4.4.4.
