Cleaning startup Homejoy “pausing” Canadian operations

In the summer of 2013, San Francisco-based Homejoy started cleaning the homes of Canadians living in Toronto and Vancouver. However, it sounds like the company is rethinking its Canadian strategy.

Though Homejoy’s international expansion continues elsewhere in the world, TechCrunch reports that the company will put Canadian operations on hold. A Homejoy spokesperson stated the interruption in service is “just a pause, not a shutdown” and that it will maintain relationships with cleaners in Canada in preparation for its return.

Homejoy just launched its iPhone app a few months ago, in September. At time of writing, the company had yet to update its website or its blog with notice of its plans to stop cleaning in Canada. Attempts to book an appointment returned a notification that the service was fully booked in my area as well as an offer for a $35 gift card once availability opened up.
