Second-generation Motorola Moto E render leaks online

The Moto E is one of the most affordable smartphones around, but the device wasn’t updated alongside the Moto G and Moto X (probably because it had only been available about four months when Motorola announced the 2nd gen Moto X and the new Moto G in September). Now, four months on, the Moto E is starting to look a bit dated. Fortunately, it looks as though Motorola is already prepping a new version.

This afternoon, Android Police posted the photo above alongside speculation that this is the new Moto E. Overall, the device looks very similar to the current generation Moto E, save for what looks like a noise-cancelling microphone around back and a front-facing camera. But we’re more interested in what’s under the hood than the design.

There’s nothing in the Android Police posting about the specs of a second generation Moto E but the first generation device was based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 200 along with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. While we would love to see that boosted to a Snapdragon 400 and an extra half GB of RAM, that may be a tad unreasonable. After all, the 2014 Moto G is a Snapdragon 400 device with 1GB of RAM, which has always kind of been the issue with the Moto E in Canada. Not quite powerful enough or cheap enough to win out above the Moto G. Hopefully this new version brings more than a front-facing camera and noise-cancelling mic.

No word on an announcement for this little guy, we we’re assuming we’ll hear something at MWC in Barcelona in early March.
