A new report by the Wall Street Journal, which confirms its previous report, claims that the next iPhone will arrive with Force Touch. What is Force Touch? Debuting on the Apple Watch and, later, the new MacBook, Force Touch is a pressure-sensitive sensor beneath a display’s glass screen that allows for alternate actions to be taken when the varying levels of force are applied.
According to “people familiar with the matter,” Apple has requested its manufacturing partners produce a record 85 million to 90 million units of the new iPhones, anticipating high demand for the new products. As with last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, this year’s models are expected to arrive in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants, with identical resolutions and nearly-identical designs. Previously, 9to5Mac received prototype casings of the new iPhone 6s, showing boost in girth of less than 1mm, which could account for the Force Touch machinery.
The Wall Street Journal also mentions that the new iPhone models will launch in a new colour, likely rose gold, following the release of similar colours for the Apple Watch and MacBook.
The next iPhones are expected to be announced in September.
