According to SamMobile, Samsung is working on an iOS version of its Gear Manager software, which effectively means the South Korean company plans to allow iPhone users to pair their Apple-made smartphone with a Gear S2 smartwatch.
Citing an unnamed source within the company, the Samsung-focused website doesn’t provide a definitive launch date for the software, but does state the company is likely working to get the app out as soon as possible.
While a report like this needs to be taken with a degree of skepticism, what it proposesĀ sounds plausible. Pebble’s smartwatches work on both iOS and Android, and Samsung launched the Gear with support for non-Samsung Android smartphones, a first for the Gear family.
However, whether the experience of using the watch alongside iOS will be on par with what it’s like when itĀ is paired with a Samsung smartphone is a different matter.
The Gear S2 has issues when paired with some non-Samsung smartphones, particularly the Nexus 6P and 5X, and anyone that has used a Pebble smartwatch with an iPhone will know the notification experience is a step down when compared to what’s available when the device is paired with an Android smartphone.
The website also notes the South Korean company is working on a new version of its Cross Point C Pen stylus. Neither well-known or particularly well-received, the current C Pen doubles as digital stylus and a traditional ballpoint point.
SamMobile says the accessory will come with Bluetooth support, and will reportedly launch alongside the second generation Galaxy Tab E, which is expected to be announced in early 2016.
