HTC’s next smartphone, what many are referring to as the X9, has leaked courtesy of Anzhou, an Android-focused website based in China. Given the quality of photos, which appear to be press renders meant for the Chinese media, it’s fair to say the phone is real.
The X9 looks like a promising mashup of HTC’s most recent handset, the A9, and Huawei’s Nexus 6P.
In terms of specs, Anzhuo reports the X9 will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, 16GB of internal storage, a 3,000mAh battery, a 13-megapixel back-facing camera with optical image stabilization, and a 4-megapixel front-facing camera. The website also notes the X9 will ship in two different variants — one with 2GB of RAM and another with 3GB. The device is reportedly dual-SIM ready.
Normally smartphones equipped with MediaTek processors don’t make their way to North America, though there are exceptions.
Most recently, Wind Mobile brought the Sony C5 Ultra to Canada, a device that, because of its MediaTek processor, initially seemed destined only for emerging markets, and early leaks of HTC’s own A9 suggested the smartphone would pack one MediaTek’s new X20 SoCs. However, when the A9 finally did come to Canada, it did so with a Qualcomm processor.
