Windows 8.1 Mobile won’t be updated to Windows 10 until 2016

Windows Phone

It looks like Windows 10 Mobile won’t roll out to current Windows Phone 8.1 users in December like Microsoft initially stated a few months ago. The company now says that Windows 10 Mobile will land on devices using Microsoft’s older operating system at some point in early 2016.

Find the company’s full statement about the delay below:

“This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones.”

Microsoft has still not released a full list of which older Windows smartphones will be updated to Windows 10 Mobile.

If you’re a Windows Phone 8.1 user and can’t wait to get your hands on Windows 10, signing up for Microsoft’s Windows Insider Program is probably your best bet.

Microsoft’s two most recent Windows 10 devices are the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.
