Amazon’s products rarely make it to Canada because the company has shown very little interest in the Canadian market, but it seems that could change soon, at least when it comes to the Amazon Echo.
According to several new job postings, originally uncovered by the Financial Post, Amazon.com is hiring for 12 new positions at its Toronto, Ontario offices since May 11th, with most of the positions focused on Echo development.
These new job listings have popped up only two months after Amazon forged a partnership with Connected Lab to create a weekend-long hackathon in the city, where many teams focused on working with the Echo and Alexa.
When the Financial Post reached out to Amazon for comment, the company gave its boilerplate response, saying, “Echo and Alexa are only available in the U.S. We have nothing to share at this time regarding availability in Canada.”
The Amazon Echo has been a surprise hit for Amazon, acting as a capable hub with the ability to link a variety of smart home products from different various manufacturers to one device.
At I/O 2016 Google announced a similar smart home voice-activated assistant called Google Home.
