Victoria-based University to test out Smartphone distance education

Victoria-based Royal Roads University is looking into to use Smartphones to bring their distance education program to those who have limited or non-existent access to the internet.

Involved in the 3-person study are Instructional designer Ining Chao, Analyst Robert Aucoin and Professor Ken Christie. They are currently going over literature and current mobile learning practices. Then they’ll be taking the trial live in April of 2010 where a field test with 30 students who are scheduled to complete their MA in human security and peace-building program will travel to Uganda and test out the Smartphone program.

Professor Ken Christie said “Developing nations, in particular, provide an interesting laboratory for mobile learning because, despite weak technological infrastructure, many have robust cell phone connectivity”.
