In a break from past practice, Google is not celebrating the launch of the latest version of its mobile operating system with a new Nexus device. Thanks to a press release sent out by LG a number of weeks ago, we’ve known this for some time now, but Google today confirmed the news: The LG V20 will be the first smartphone to ship with Android 7.0.
“Today, and over the next several weeks, the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One) will get an over the air software update to Android 7.0 Nougat. Any devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program will also receive this final version,” said Google’s Sameer Samat in the blog post introducing Android Nougat.
“And there are many tasty devices coming from our partners running Android Nougat, including the upcoming LG V20 which will be the first new smartphone that ships with Android Nougat, right out of the box.”
LG is scheduled to unveil the LG V20 at a special media event in San Francisco, California on September 6th. The company has already confirmed the phone will come to Canada.
