At IFA 2016 Asus announced the follow-up to its ZenWatch 2, the ZenWatch 3, shedding the square design of its predecessor for a rounded watch face.
The ZenWatch 3 is constructed of jewellery-grade 316L stainless steel, which means it’s able to withstand everyday scraps and bumps. The wearable, just like its predecessor, runs Android Wear and features a three button design around its case, allowing users to easily access its most frequently used functions.
As for specs, the ZenWatch 3 sports a 1.39-inch round display with a 400 x 400 pixel resolution, IP67-certification against water damage, comes in at 9.95mm thick, Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.1, and WiFi connectivity. Its battery is 340mAh and the company promises “up to two days” of use, with fast-charging functionality — Asus notes that it only takes 15 minutes to reach a 60 percent charge with its HyperCharge technology.
The ZenWatch 3 is Android and iOS-compatible and also touts itself as a “full-featured activity tracker” that can count steps and track various activities. Finally, the ZenWatch 3 includes over 50 watch faces and will be available in Silver, Gunmetal and Rose Gold variants. Buyers also have the voice between a stitched Italian leather or rubber band.
While there is no word yet on Canadian availability, Asus states it will be available soon for €229 in Europe, which comes to about $340 CAD.
