Ahead of unveiling its newest flagship at Mobile World Congress on February 26th, LG is giving consumers a sneak peek at some of the experiences that its large 18:9 format makes possible.
The company states in a press release that its new UX 6.0 Android skin will be specially customized to “maximize the advantages” of the device’s 5.7-inch ‘QHD+ Full Vision’ display, naming several features designed to support the unique aspect ratio.
While the company says it expects to kick off an era of premium smartphones with 18:9 screen aspect ratios, and that the number of films, games and apps tailored to 18:9 are “sharply rising,” it reassures customers that the device includes a feature allowing users to view existing 16:9 content into 18:9 content.
UX 6.0 also brings with it a ‘Square Camera’ feature that divides the camera into two squares, letting users take 1:1 format square photos and review them simultaneously. LG also announced two new shooting modes: a mode for food photography that apparently bumps up colour quality and saturation and users can create GIF files by combining from two to 100 pictures in a loop.
LG also stressed that the G6’s 18:9 aspect ratio is optimal for Android Nougat’s split screen multi-tasking feature.
