Update: “Bud Phone” app now live… offers Canadian long distance for free

No need to pay for long distance minutes again – Bud has saved the day! Looks like Freephoneline and Budweiser have teamed up for a very heavy ad centric app called the “Bud Phone”. This is officially launching on December 15th and works on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry devices. All you have to do is install the app (everything apparently integrates and syncs with your contact list) and type in the long distance number and press call and get unlimited for free.

The description that we were sent states that “The ‘location’ feature of the application allows the user to confirm their location. This ensures your calls are always routed through our network access number local to that city. You can now take your free long distance on the road and never pay for anything more than local airtime”.

Update: Well the app is now live on BlackBerry, iPhone and Android. Make sure you read the FAQ’s carefully. It seems that the app only gives free Canadian long distance calling to select provinces/cities. Check out the full list here. Unfortunately if you want to call outside these cities you’ll need to purchase a “long distance voucher”. Rates for Canada and the US are two cents a minute and they state that over 50 countries range from $0.03/minute.

Sounds good. More here at BudPhone
