New 367 area code coming to eastern Quebec region

Telephone

The CRTC is meeting the growing demand for new telephone numbers by adding a 367 area code to the eastern region of Quebec that currently uses 418 and 581.

Due to the growth in communication services, the demand for new numbers has increased in the eastern region of Quebec.

“The introduction of a new area code creates millions of additional telephone numbers without affecting the existing numbers,” said Glen Brown, director of the Canadian Numbering Administrator, in a CRTC press release.

Distribution of the new area code will commence November 24th, 2018. From that date forward whether for personal or business-related purposes, it’s now possible to receive the 367 area code. Though the area code will not start circulating until the current 418 and 581 area codes are depleted.

The addition of an area code doesn’t change anything, however, as numbers are still dialed the same way whether they’re long distance or local. 9-1-1 also remains only a three digit number.

This new area code will serve the people of the eastern region of Quebec, which includes: Alma, Chicoutimi, La Malbaie, Lévis, Montmagny, Québec, Rimouski, Rivière-du-Loup, Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce, St-Georges-de-Beauce, St-Félicien and Thetford Mines.

Lastly, on November 24th, 2018, Newfoundland and Labrador will receive a new 709 area code, followed by British Columbia and New Brunswick at a later date.
