Sony announces new Xperia S phone, global release in March

We are live at the Sony CES 2012 press conference and they are announcing a plethora of new devices, but only a few of them are going to appeal to our voracious Canadian mobile audience.

In addition to the Sony Ericsson Ion, an AT&T LTE device, the newly phone division, recently renamed to just Sony Mobile Communications, is bringing out a new device in the Xperia S.

The Xperia S is the ‘Nozomi’ that we have been leaking again and again over the past few weeks. It’s outfitted with a 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, 1GB RAM and a gap-free Reality Display-enabled 4.3″ 720p display. Think the Galaxy Nexus minus the AMOLED technology.

On the back is a 12MP Exmor R camera sensor, NFC and Playstation certification. The Xperia S is not LTE-enabled. The Xperia S will be “released globally” in March, so it’s safe to say it is coming to Canada.
