We’re hearing reports that Android 4.1.1 is being released as an OTA update to Galaxy Nexus devices across North America. This update is newer than the one developers received at Google I/O and apparently fixes a few outstanding bugs that were lingering in the test version.
Android 4.1 comes with many new features including Project Butter, which is a vastly improved hardware-accelerated performance framework that locks all animations at 60fps; and Google Now, which is a great search-and-voice companion. For more information on Jelly Bean, check out our hands-on. We’re also hearing word that the Nexus 7 tablet, which hasn’t officially been released yet, is being updated to 4.1.1 as well.
If your Galaxy Nexus has received the OTA update, let us know. It’s certainly an improvement over Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, and we can’t wait until more devices are released with this version.
