Motorola study: 42% of Canadians send a flirty text

Bell Motorola Hint

We let you about the Motorola Hint coming to Bell back in March and to kick off the launch (officially tomorrow), Motorola and Angus Reid Strategies have put a report together that shows how us Canadians are using “technology to pass along ‘hints’ when it comes to making or breaking relationships”.

The online survey was completed between March 6th & 7th of 1,000 randomly selected Canadian adults… so I’m not sure how accurate the numbers really are, but it’s good for a chuckle or two. Here are some findings:

– Two in five (42%) of Canadians aged 18-34 would send a flirtatious text to hint they have a crush
– 35% flirt with their crush using Facebook wall posts or gifts and instant messaging (32%)
– One in ten Canadians aged 55+ would use Facebook (15%) and instant messaging (12%)
– 10% would give someone the hint that their relationship is over by changing their Facebook status.
– 35% would choose to break up with someone over the phone or in person
– 15% would opt not to use technology to give someone the hint their relationship is over
– 17% would use texting to hint they have a crush
– 3% would hint that someone has food in their teeth or their fly is down

Carly Biggart, Director of Marketing, Motorola Canada said “The Hint is built for life on the go and managing relationships. We wanted to look at the role technology plays in Canadians’ lives and how we’re using it to give someone a ‘hint’ that might be hard to give face-to-face. Results show Canadians are doing everything from flirting to breaking up, all using technology.”

The Motorola Hint will officially be released tomorrow at $79.95 with a 3-year contract or outright for $329.95. The Bell Hint is a slider with a full QWERTY keyboard, 2.5″ widescreen display, comes with a 2 megapixel camera with digital zoom, full HTML browser, GPS, MP3 player, up to 8GB optional memory (microSD card), 3.5mm headset.
