The BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 costs a steep $2050 Canadian. This was officially launched back in June, but at the time it only came in a stainless steel variation. Eager Canadians can mark “mid-January” on their schedule as this is when the new Black version will be available for sale online and at the Porsche Design in Toronto.
The specs are the same: 2.8-inch touchscreen display, runs OS 7.1 (no upgrade to BlackBerry 10 is planned), 1.2 GHz processor, 5MP camera that records 720p HD videos, custom Porsche fonts and icons with a full QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi and NFC. I popped into the Toronto Porsche Design store today and the look and feel of the black version simply seems more luxurious than the stainless steel model. The matte black really sets it apart and the frame is still made of stainless steel, but encased in black plastic with the backing constructed of hand-wrapped leather.
