BlackBerry 10.2.1 Gold SDK was recently released to the developer community and it seems one of the features that was missing from the leaked changelog is something BlackBerry is calling the “Floating Action Bar”. This is nothing ground breaking, but will reduce the confusion for some BB10 OS users. BlackBerry will basically be adding a back button, attachment, send and other icons above the virtual keyboard on some of its screens.
According to Michael Clewley, Director of Handheld Software Product Management at BlackBerry, “Users are still accustomed to the gestures based on the user interface and the fact that the BB10 using this strongly we wanted to eliminate confusion on specific screens. With 10.2.1, we added the action bar floating above the keyboard to better show the actions, but also the back button on your doorstep.”
There’s no word yet on how many apps will see the inclusion of the Floating Action Bar, but it’s certainly welcome.
