Let Google help you find the perfect Android phone

One of the more enjoyable parts of my job is reading the reviews my boss Daniel Bader writes prior to them being published. I think they’re some of the best mobile product reviews you can find online, but I also understand that some people don’t have the time or patience to read lengthy reviews like the one he wrote on the Galaxy S6 or LG G4 before deciding on their next Android phone. (ed: *blush*)

Google seems to understand this as well, which is why the company is launching a website to help people find the device that’s perfect for their needs.

To generate a list of suggestions, visitors to the site are asked to pick the three most important use cases for their phone. Examples include activities like taking photos, listening to music, being productive, staying in shape and “expressing my style.” Once a use case is picked, there are two follow-up questions. In the case of taking photos, the site asks you how many photos in a take in a given week, and whether you take a lot of shots with the rear-facing camera or if you’re a selfie machine. Lastly, visitors are asked to pick a preferred carrier. Currently, the website only has American carriers listed, but it’s possible to skip this step and still get suggestions.

Once the website generates a list of suggested phones, visitors can further narrow down that list by selecting a price range and phone size. The site has a bit of skew towards flagship phones; even picking relatively simple use cases like calling and texting will result in phones like the Galaxy S6 edge and Note 4 being suggested.

If you’re in the market for a new phone, why not check out the website and then visit our reviews section for a second opinion?
