Apple announced this morning that the combined opening sales of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus topped 13 million units. CEO Tim Cook stated, “sales for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history.”
The 4.7-inch iPhone 6s price starts at $899 for the 16GB model and climbs to $1,159 for the 128GB model. The 5.5-inch 16GB iPhone 6s Plus begins at $1,029 and jumps to $1,289 for the 128GB model.
Curious how much it costs to put an iPhone 6s together? Well, according to Teardown.com, the total cost of components for the iPhone 6s is $245 (USD), which is more expensive than last year’s iPhone 6 by $16.50. The major difference is price is reportedly from the processor, sensors (specifically 3D Touch), display and memory.
Of course, the $245 cost does not include R&D, manufacturing, marketing or shipping the new iPhone.
