Android Wear’s companion app was upgraded to version 1.4 this weekend, making minor changes to the application’s user interface. Cloud sync has been moved to a new sub-screen called Privacy and Personal Data, and the ability to toggleĀ tip cards on and off has also been added.

Other notable changes to the app include the removal of Wear’s battery life graph. This change will frustrate some users, especially thoseĀ who prefer to monitor their Wear device’s battery usage.

But the most interesting aspect of the app update is a hidden change log for an upcoming Android Wear OTA update.

According to changes found by Android Police, it appears thatĀ devices with speakers will soon be able to accept incoming calls on the watch itself. The update will also expand voice message support toĀ third-party apps like WhatsApp, WeChat, Nextplus and Viber.

While there are only a handful of Android Wear devices with speakers, such asĀ the Huawei Watch and LG Watch Urbane Second Edition, that number should grow in the coming months.

The change log also reveals battery life improvements and new one-handed gesture controls are coming to Android Wear.

Below is a full list of features added in the latest Android Wear companion app update:

  • Ability to play sounds and take calls on watches with a speaker
  • Support for sending WhatsApp, WeChat, Viber, Telegram, and Nextplus messages with your voice or via touch
  • New gestures to control your watch with one hand
  • Battery life improvements
  • Language options for Mandarin, Cantonese, Indonesian, Polish, Dutch, and Thai

While Google’s latest update to Wear’s app is relatively minor, it seems to indicate Google’s upcoming Wear OS updateĀ is a pretty big deal.
