BlackBerry CEO: ‘I am never going to give up the phone business’, promises more devices after the Priv

With BlackBerry’s US market share below one percent, and smartphone sales falling below one million units per quarter, it’s safe to say the company’s handset division is in dire need of a reboot. And with the Priv beginning to ship to customers around the world last week, the company is reportedly moving onto future projects.

CEO John Chen appeared on Fox Business this past weekend reassuring investors that, “[he is] never going to give up the phone business… we have a range of products after this and it’s actually quite exciting.”

While it’s unclear whether the company will continue to release both BlackBerry 10 and Android-based devices, or focus strictly on the latter, Chen is confident he can bring profit back to the division by the next fiscal year.
