Samsung has officially announced Galaxy XR, which was previously known as Project Moohan. Galaxy XR is the first device built on the Android XR platform, which was developed by Google, Samsung and Qualcomm.
The Apple Vision Pro competitor is only US$1,799 (CA$2,521), but unfortunately, it’s not coming to Canada.
Ahead of knowing it wasn’t coming to Canada, we tried out Galaxy XR, where I played with some of the auto spatialize images and videos, had a very interactive experience on YouTube, and thought the experience was easy to use and pretty intuitive.
We’re also finally learning about the device’s specs, which include 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, and a 3,552 x 3,840-pixel resolution display with up to 90Hz refresh rate. It also has two high-resolution pass-through cameras and six world-facing tracking cameras with 6.5-megapixel sensors and 18mm, f/2.0 aperture lenses, though it isn’t clear if those specs apply to all the cameras or just some. Galaxy XR supports iris recognition to unlock the device and enter passwords for certain apps.
Galaxy XR also has up to 2 hours of general use battery life, which seems pretty bad, but it’s only a little less than the new Apple Vision Pro.
