Disney has been marketing the hell out of the new Tron movie (Jared Leto be damned, I guess), and the latest attempt pushes an update into the cabin of Tesla vehicles.
Essentially, this update applies a Tron Ares skin to the car’s built-in navigation and changes the interior RGB lights to red.
What’s peculiar about it is that this opens the door to more in-car advertising, which I don’t think any of us want to see. We already lost TV screens and the internet to a death spiral of ads; do we really need to inject them into cars?

I will also note that Tesla isn’t calling this an advertisement, so it’s not confirmed that any money changed hands for this, but if I had to guess based on all the marketing Disney has been doing around this film, I’d expect that this was a paid campaign.
I’d also love to point out that this update doesn’t appear to add any cool Tron light bike sounds or Nine Inch Nails music, so in my opinion, it’s pretty half-baked.
And of course there has been blowback from Tesla drivers for various reasons. Some are mad that Tesla is working with a woke company like Disney, while more reasonable drivers are just annoyed to see ads in their car, according to Electrek.
The publication also expects that within a year, Tesla will start charging for an ad-free experience, which is pretty funny considering Elon has mentioned multiple times that Tesla cars are appreciating assets.
