Daily Hive Editorial
Role: Managing Editor, Daily Hive & City Lead, Vancouver
Department: Daily Hive Editorial
Salary: $80,000 - $95,000
About Curiocity Media Group (CMG)
Curiocity Media Group, the digital division of ZoomerMedia, is home to some of Canada's best-known media brands, including Daily Hive, blogTO, Curiocity, Dished, Offside, MobileSyrup, and CULTR. Together, these brands reach millions of readers each month with hyper-local content, breaking news, and branded storytelling that blends editorial credibility with a distinctly engaging voice. CMG combines strong journalism with data-driven marketing solutions to deliver results for both audiences and brand partners.
About Daily Hive
Daily Hive is one of Canada's leading digital media companies, delivering the latest news, culture, and lifestyle coverage in major cities across the country. Our content spans breaking news, lifestyle, food, and real estate reporting, produced by a team of reporters and creators dedicated to helping readers understand and engage with the cities they call home.
About the Role
As Managing Editor, Daily Hive, you will lead the national editorial strategy and day-to-day operations for one of CMG's largest and fastest-growing national brands. You will oversee Daily Hive’s editorial teams in Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton, as well as its national team, ensuring a consistent editorial voice, strong local relevance, and a steady flow of original reporting across every market.
As City Lead, Vancouver, you bring a multi-media lens to the role, grounded in digital journalism, but fluent enough in video and social content strategy to guide it. You will hold final sign-off authority over Vancouver-market content, spanning editorial, social, and video, across Daily Hive, Curiocity, Dished, and CMG’s other brands, to ensure it is accurate, on-brand, and relevant to Vancouver’s local audience. You will exercise this authority in close partnership with CMG’s Video and Social leadership and with the Managing Editors of CMG’s other brands, escalating to the COO on the rare occasion alignment can’t be reached.
This role is based in Vancouver and works in a hybrid capacity from CMG's Vancouver office. Beyond leading Daily Hive's editorial teams, you will act as CMG's city lead in Vancouver, representing Daily Hive and CMG locally, building relationships with businesses, vendors, and media partners in person. This position will also work hand in hand with CMG's executive team and the Managing Editors of Curiocity, blogTO, and other CMG brands to ensure Vancouver's content and business needs are met across the full CMG portfolio.
This position requires a strong journalism background with sharp news judgment, deep comfort with SEO and content performance data, and a thoughtful point of view on how AI tools can responsibly support editorial integrity and genuine original reporting without compromise.
What You’ll Do
- Own Daily Hive’s national editorial strategy, developing annual, quarterly, and monthly content plans with KPIs across Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, and the national desk.
- Directly manage and mentor Daily Hive’s City Editors and editorial staff across all markets, setting a consistent editorial bar while supporting local and national news judgment and market relevance.
- Oversee the editorial process end-to-end, including pitches, assignments, editing, fact-checking, photo/video selection, and SEO optimization, across all Daily Hive markets.
- Plan and maintain a robust national and local content calendar, including weekend and statutory holiday coverage, ensuring a steady flow of original reporting.
- Analyze website, social, and video analytics tools to shape editorial decisions and drive audience growth in each market.
- Monitor and consider how AI tools support editorial workflows, balancing efficiency gains with journalistic integrity, accuracy, and original reporting standards.
- Collaborate with Sales Management and our internal execution team to collectively ensure alignment and brand consistency between organic and paid content for Daily Hive and Vancouver as a whole.
- Act as CMG’s City Lead for Vancouver, holding final sign-off authority on Vancouver content (editorial, social, and video) across CMG’s brand portfolio (Curiocity, blogTO, Dished, and others), partnering with each brand’s Managing Editor.
- Collaborate with Daily Hive’s own Social and Video staff to extend articles into multi-platform content (short-form video, Instagram graphics, etc.), reviewing that content for accuracy and quality.
- Recruit, train, and mentor editorial team members as needed, and maintain onboarding and training documentation.
- Ensure all published content adheres to editorial and formatting guidelines, corporate standards, Canadian copyright law, and journalistic integrity.
- Continue to write and edit high-profile stories as needed, maintaining Daily Hive’s brand voice and personality.
- Stay informed on local, national, and global trends relevant to Daily Hive’s audiences across all markets.
- Represent Daily Hive and CMG in person with businesses, vendors, and media/industry partners in the Vancouver market and beyond, attending events and building external relationships.
- Work with CMG’s executive team and senior brand leaders to align Daily Hive’s editorial strategy with overall business goals.
What You Bring
- 8+ years of professional digital editorial experience, including at least 3–5 years managing editorial teams across more than one market.
- Formal journalism training or equivalent hands-on newsroom experience, with strong news judgment and a demonstrated commitment to editorial integrity, grounded primarily in traditional written/digital journalism.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and to hold senior editorial sign-off/decision-making authority across multiple content teams and formats, exercising that judgment collaboratively.
- Multi-media fluency: experience beyond written journalism, with a solid understanding of video and social content strategy and how it complements and extends editorial storytelling.
- Based in Vancouver, with the ability to work hybrid from CMG’s Vancouver office; willingness to work unconventional hours, evenings, and weekends as needed.
- A proven track record leading or growing a hyper-local or multi-market digital news/lifestyle brand.
- Deep, practical understanding of SEO, content strategy, and analytics tools, and how to use them to shape editorial decisions.
- Direct experience navigating AI adoption in a newsroom or content team — able to identify where AI tools responsibly support editorial work without compromising accuracy or originality.
- Strong people leadership skills, with experience managing editors and writers across multiple cities or remote teams.
- Excellent writing and editing ability, with a sharp eye for headlines, packaging, and brand voice.
- Comfort and willingness to meet in person with local businesses, vendors, and media partners, and to attend events representing the brand.
- A collaborative mindset and experience working cross-functionally with other editorial leaders, sales, and branded content teams.
- An undergraduate or master’s degree in Journalism is considered an asset, though not required.
