Meta is finally adding a group chat feature to Threads, just over two years after the platform made its debut.
The group chat feature, a popular feature on most social media platforms, allows users to send messages to multiple users instead of sending separate messages. If any users on Threads want to create a group chat, they will have to go to the new message tab, where they can then add up to 50 followers to a group chat. As expected, the new feature will also support the ability to name group chats to make it easier to identify who is in the conversation or what it is about (or for coming up with the most insane names, as per usual).
Group chat support is currently rolling out globally, with exceptions to the United Kingdom and Australia. Meta is currently working to get these features up and running as soon as possible.
According to The Verge, future updates will include improved inbox management tools and enable Threads users to invite others to group chats by sharing a link instead of individually adding them to the conversation.
Meta has been expanding Threads within the last year, which includes rolling out DMs itself back in June, and working on the ability to add new default feeds like For You, Folllowing, or a custom feed, similar to what X/Twitter has.
