X (Twitter) will soon launch a marketplace in which you can buy inactive usernames.
In the appropriately named X Handle Marketplace, X Premium Plus and Premium Business users will be able to browse and request ownership of inactive usernames. Some will be free and “often include full names, multi-word phrases, or alphanumeric combinations.” Rarer ones, however, “may be priced anywhere from $2,500 to over seven figures, depending on demand and uniqueness.”
The X Handle Marketplace is our industry-first solution to redistribute handles that are no longer in use.
Eligible Premium subscribers will be able to search and make requests, with both complimentary and paid options available.

It should be noted that this feature isn’t for most people. Even if you’re sadly still on Elon Musk’s cesspool of a platform (and no judgment here as we are, too), the fact that it’s exclusive to Premium Plus and Business subscribers limits its audience. For context, Premium Plus starts at US$40 (about C$56), while Premium Business begins at US$200/month (about C$280/month). On top of that, you have to maintain a membership to retain access to the username; if you downgrade, you’ll go back to your old username.
If you happen to have one of those accounts, though, you can join the waitlist for the X Handle Marketplace.
