New data directly from Netflix says that 9pm is the new midnight on December 31st.
While you drink and be merry, the popular streaming service wants you to put your kids in front of the TV or tablet to celebrate “the most famous 10 seconds of the year.”
To make things easier for parents this week, Netflix has created a “New Year’s Eve Countdown” feature, which gives parents full control over when they want to celebrate the new year with their kids. The company has worked with a number of content creators to create special kids-themed countdowns, including popular characters like Oona and Baba of Puffin Rock, Care Bears & Cousins, Inspector Gadget, King Julien and Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Parents can begin these custom countdowns whenever they want, giving themselves a few precious hours before the actual ball drops.
Netflix notes that 58 percent of parents around the world would put their kids to bed before the clock strikes twelve — lower in Canada, Australia and the United States at 49 percent — and I am one of those parents. Happy New Years!
