PGA announces deal with Twitter and Facebook to livestream several golf tournaments

Twitter and Facebook today announced a partnership with the PGA to live stream various professional golf tournaments in the coming weeks. This follows similar announcements from Twitter that saw the social media platform secure deals to live stream sporting events from the MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA and the recent Wimbledon tennis tournament.

Similar to the Wimbledon experience, those interested in tuning in on Twitter will be able to do so from desktop or mobile device. On desktop, an option for user interactions and comments will appear on the right-hand side with the tournament streaming on the left hand side. On mobile, the live stream will open up in a video format where it can be viewed in either portrait or landscape.

The current schedule is as follows:
Barclays: August 25th and August 26th
– Available to anyone in the world on Twitter and Facebook Live — 7:30am EST – 9:00am EST
– U.S. and Canada only: 11:00am EST – 1:00pm EST (Twitter only)

Deutsche Bank Championship: September 2nd and September 3rd
– Available to anyone in the world on Twitter and Facebook Live — 8:30am EST – 10:00am EST
– U.S. and Canada Only: 11:00am EST – 1:00pm EST (Twitter only)

“Live streaming content continues to be a big focus area for Twitter and we’re pleased to give Canadian sports fans yet another live video experience. Golf has always enjoyed a strong audience on Twitter and many of our top Canadian PGA pros like Graham DeLaet and Brooke Henderson are very active on the platform,” said Christopher Doyle, Twitter Canada’s head of sports, in an interview with MobileSyrup. “Live coverage of Barclays and Deutsche Bank Championship will only deepen the Twitter experience for golf fans across Canada.”
