If you’ve been holding out on purchasing the Oculus Rift, hoping for a price drop, now might be a good time to click the purchase button.
Facebook has lowered the cost of its Oculus Rift with Touch controllers bundle to $818 CAD after shipping, down from approximately $1,065.
Facebook recently released the Rift’s Touch controllers after months of delays. While the room-scale capable ergonomic gamepads have been relatively well-received, they currently aren’t able to track a player in full 360-degrees unless Oculus owners buy an additional $79 CAD sensor.
Even then, the size of the Rift with Touch’s room-scale doesn’t compare to HTC’s Vive. In comparison the Vive, which includes the Base Stations required for room-scale with every unit, costs $1,149.
Oculus has recently been embroiled in a legal battle with video game publisher Zenimax related to intellectual property and code used during the development of its headset. Zenimax won the $500 million suit, and is taking further legal action further in an effort to block the sale of the Oculus Rift.
