Vidéotron added 27,000 new wireless subscribers in Q1 2017

Coming off its strong Q4 2016 earnings and being named ‘Québec’s most respected telecommunications company’ for the 12th year in a row, Vidéotron’s focus for 2017 was to continue its success in wireless. So far, the company is on the right track after announcing its Q1 2017 results.

Kicking off the year was the decision by the CRTC to pass judgement against the company’s Unlimited Music service. The CRTC stated it wanted a “fair marketplace in which internet services providers compete on their network elements (price, quality of service, speeds, data allowance and better service offerings), not by treating certain content differently.”

Despite that setback, in the first three months of 2017 Vidéotron added 27,000 new wireless subscribers and increased its mobile revenue by $26.5 million, representing a 22.8 percent jump from the same period last year. Vidéotron’s ARPU (average monthly revenue per user) rose by 6 percent year over year to $52.64.

“Vidéotron, which is now positioned as one of the leading mobile carriers in Québec, posted another excellent performance” noted Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Quebecor. “The steady uptrend in Vidéotron’s numbers has been driven by its high-growth products and services, led by mobile telephony, Internet access, business solutions and Club illico.”
